Same joke, different animal
The original meme stars a black cat (Know Your Meme), but the humor is the human grin and the slow, deliberate clap. On a dog, the effect is arguably stranger, which is the point. The scene, timing and sound are exactly the same as for cats.
Dog photos that work
| Works well | Struggles |
|---|---|
| Dog sitting, facing the camera | Dog lying down or mid-run |
| Ears and eyes clearly visible | Face hidden by a toy, a hand or a cone |
| Short or medium coat, sharp photo | Very long, fluffy coats in low light |
| One dog in the frame | Two dogs, or a dog on someone’s lap |
Big dogs and small dogs both work: the video always shows the whole animal sitting upright on a sofa.
What to expect
- Your dog’s coat color, markings and face come from the photo.
- The front paws become small human hands. Once in a while a paw stays a paw or a clap blurs; the next take is usually fine.
- The grin shows human teeth, like the original cat. If your dog has a famous derp face, it will get replaced by the grin.
Cat or dog: which looks closer to the meme?
A black cat looks closest to the viral clip. Every other cat and every dog gets the same scene, so the result is “your pet doing the meme”, not a copy of the original cat.
